Ingredients

Blue Layer
  • 1 cup blue sports drink
  • 0.5 cup ice for blending the blue layer
White Layer
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda, chilled
  • 0.25 cup coconut cream
Red Layer
  • 1 cup fruit punch or cranberry juice
  • 0.5 cup ice for blending the red layer
Garnish
  • 0.25 cup whipped cream
  • 0.5 cup fresh strawberries
  • 0.25 cup blueberries
  • 1 tbsp patriotic sprinkles

Equipment

  • 1 blender

Method

Layer the drink
  1. Fill a tall clear glass halfway with ice.
  2. Blend the blue sports drink with ice until slushy, using a pulsing blend for about 20 to 30 seconds, and stop when the mixture looks thick and frosty.
  3. Carefully pour the blended blue mixture into the bottom of the glass.
  4. Slowly add the coconut cream and lemon-lime soda mixture over the back of a spoon until it forms a separate white layer.
  5. Blend the fruit punch or cranberry juice with ice until slightly slushy, using a pulsing blend for about 15 to 25 seconds.
  6. Slowly pour the red layer on top, keeping the pour height low so the layers stay distinct.
  7. Garnish with whipped cream and scatter fresh strawberries and blueberries over the top, then finish with patriotic sprinkles.
  8. Serve immediately while the layers are still cold and slushy.

Notes

For the cleanest stripes, chill the lemon-lime soda before layering and pour over the back of a spoon without stirring. Refrigerate only briefly (up to 2 hours) because the slushy layers will soften; freezing is not recommended. For a lighter option, replace coconut cream with light coconut milk and use a lower-sugar lemon-lime soda.
